Achieving Exponential Growth Across IG, TikTok & YouTube

GUEST-STARRING MIKIRAI

Now, more than ever, is the best time to become a creator thanks to short-form content, enthusiastic viewers, and the reach of multiple different platforms.

Have you discovered your niche yet? With endless content to consume, it is always helpful to narrow down to a specific genre of content, especially when first starting out as a beginner content creator. Miki, from Mikiraiofficial, did exactly that when she initially launched her social media accounts and is the perfect person to discuss what it means to find your niche and how to utilize this to grow your following on any platform.

Miki was from a Taiwanese family, born in Japan, and eventually moved to San Francisco Bay Area when she was 3 years old. She first started her content creating journey when she was attending nursing school at UCLA. From the get-go, Miki always knew she wanted to try her hand at being an influencer and strategized standing out amongst other creators by promoting what she knew best - being a nurse.

Sure enough, this idea took off and she started garnering followers in the healthcare niche by focusing mostly on educational nursing content. At this time, being an R.N. was her full-time career, while creating digital content was just a hobby. But today, she managed to flip the two and has really mastered the ultimate trifecta of social media - Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. I wanted to pick her brain on how she started her career and how she managed to find success on every single platform. Here are Miki’s tips and tricks she has learned along the way.

1. It is important to find a niche but you don’t have to let it define you forever.

Miki launched her content career in the midst of nursing school and naturally these facets of her everyday life became the centerpoint of all the content she created. After she amassed a decent following, Miki realized that although this helped her grow her presence online, it was actually a slight drawback. For instance, in videos where she was not wearing scrubs, her views and engagement plummeted because her audience was so heavily focused on the medical industry. Going cross-platform actually allowed her to redefine her online identity so she could be known for more than just nursing content.

2. Be passionate every step of the way.

Since Miki had always fantasized about one day becoming an influencer, this passion and determination was present in everything she did online. She was so eager and willing that she knew she would continue to make content out of pure joy and now the income she makes is just the cherry on top! Your followers are cognizant of your energy, even through a screen, so be sure to communicate this through all of your content!

3. There is no better time to start than now.

2020 was when Miki hit her turning point and started receiving exponential growth across the different social platforms. Even now, she always encourages people there is no better time than now to start your career as an influencer. With the weight behind short-form video content and the dynamic algorithm that constantly provides more visibility to different types of creators, it is easier than ever to find success.

4. TikTok can be key to making it big.

When it comes to short-form video, Miki actually prefers to do everything from editing to adding text in-app on TikTok and has grown to over 2.3 million followers! She says that she absolutely loves the community on this app because users are generally more willing to accept more unique ideas so you can push the boundaries of content even further, whereas Instagram Reels are a bit more polished and professional. TikTok is great for those who want to create interesting, organic content that isn’t so structured.

5. Never feel guilty about double dipping content.

Since TikTok is where she formulates all her short-form videos, Miki frequently takes this content and reuploads them to Instagram and YouTube Shorts to optimize time and kill three birds with one stone. Plus, she reminds us there is a different audience on every platform and one video might be stagnant in engagement on one app but might blow up on another.

6. Always protect your personal life.

Although some creators are more open with their audience than others, Miki cautions that you should always be careful when it comes to the gritty details about your personal life. She always makes a point to blur out information about the location of her work or home because once you put something on the internet, it lives there forever.

7. Every platform has the potential to be lucrative.

Thanks to Instagram Reels and the ability to get paid more for short-form video content, Miki has seen the most financial success from Instagram the past 2 years or so. However, every platform has the potential to add to your overall income but it is important to pick and choose where you want to spend your energy on things such as branded content.

Talking to Miki was so inspirational and you can certainly tell that her passion for content creating is immeasurable. With over 490k followers on Instagram, over 700k subscribers on YouTube, and a whopping 2.3m followers on TikTok, Miki is nothing short of a social media success story. On the horizon, Miki has shared that she will be launching a podcast with her boyfriend, as well as educational social media courses so be sure to follow her across all platforms and stay tuned for what is to come!
